TRIBUTE TO.....INAMORATA

TRIBUTE TO.....INAMORATA
I’m delighted to ma this tribute to a woman who has once made an indelible impact in my life. A friend I could call my inamorata in every sense of it at a time. This damsel has brought out the best in me; she has challenged me to go for the best in life and what I am today is part of her testimonies. In those years her love awakens in me possibilities and potentials that I never thought existed. You will agree with me such a woman deserved a piece on this page.
The beauty of marriage is in when all a man could ever wish for is a woman. When a woman is indeed a help mate has God designed it to be. All a man seeks for in a woman is not a sex mate but a soul mate. A woman of virtue, as a woman’s virtue is a man’s greatest glory.
For the time you were there, for the friendship and love we shared I’m wishing you A HAPPY MARRIED LIFE…Omobolanle…you are epitome of a good woman…WISHING YOU A FRUITFUL MARITAL LIFE.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Abbis.

Best wishes from Olusegun.

N.B.
Omobolanle is a batch A (08) corp member serving in Akwa Ibom state. She won 2nd runner up MISS NYSC AKWA IBOM.

TRADE IN ART: AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS.
Graduate unemployment is one of the issues needed an urgent attention in Nigeria today. Our curriculum needs to be the one that equip our graduating students with some entrepreneurial skills. This could form a foundation for self-employment and self-reliance, thus making them job creators instead of job seekers. They need to be taught how they can creatively apply what they have learnt in school into practical life rather than preparing them for jobs which are not even available out there.
I suggest the NYSC Scheme should further strengthens the partnership with NGO’s and Cooperate bodies to render more applicable practical skill skills acquisition programme for our corp members with no or little entrepreneurial skills at the orientation camps.
Art is one of the feasible tools in skill acquisition programme. An engagement in Art expose young people to exploration, innovation, critical thinking and practical skill acquisition such as in Tie and Dye, printing, decoration e.t.c. However, corp members could trade with the knowledge acquired. Art stimulates creativity and promotes critical thinking skills in an individual.
I would recommend an art support initiative body, ART 4 LIFE. Art 4 Life is a non-profit organization with a platform for young individual to discover, develop and maximize their God given potentials. A platform enterprising graduate could use for further development of their entrepreneurial skills.

PET ACTIVITIES IN SCHOOLS ON HOLD

UPDATE ON THE PEER EDUCATORS TRAINING (PET) ACTIVITIES
The current national strike embarked upon by the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in its struggle for the implementation of the new teachers salary scale has in a way brought a reverse on the progress in the activities of the PET members recorded in the last few weeks.
By the end of June most of the batch A stream II, PET members had commence the Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS Prevention Project at various Secondary Schools across Kwara State.
ART and FIRE with code number KW/08A/1172 and KW/08A/1564 respectively, flagged off with a film show titled YELLOW CARD @ PLAYFAIR MEMORIAL COLLEGE, ORO-AGO, IFELODUN L.G.A. At the end of the film show most of the students got "born again" with the message of ABSTINENCE.
Lafiaji, the capital town of EDU L.G.A. had a feel of the initiative with the PET members UCHE and G-BOY, NIKKY and ONYI kick start on the 16th and 23rd June at the GOVERNMENT DAY SECONDARY SCHOOL and GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOL respectively.
NIKKY, ONYI, UCHE and G-BOY were invited by the Rotaract Club of College of Education (Technical) Lafiaji on the 20th of June, 08 tagged: BELIEFS, MODE OF TRANSMISSION, and SIGNS / SYMTOMS & THE PREVENTION OF HIV/AIDS. It was a success!
RAPHAEL and IT started the training at TAOHEED SECONDARY SCHOOL, BASIN, on the 19th of June, 2008.

FILM SHOW @ PLAYFAIR MEMORIAL COLLEGE, ORO-AGO, IFELODUN L.G.A.,KWARA STATE

FILM SHOW @ PLAYFAIR MEMORIAL COLLEGE, ORO-AGO, IFELODUN L.G.A, KWARA ST.
As the saying goes "what people see stays much longer with them than what they read or hear". We kick start the training of the Peer Educators at Playfair Memorial College by showing a movie titled "YELLOW CARD" by Mainframe Production. Just like work of Art the movie causes emotional reaction on the viewers. They were intrigued by the story line.
We actually plan to arouse their interest first before we introduce to them the subject of "Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS Prevention project". We believe if the adolescent were well informed they would act positively. The essence of showing the movie was to unveil to them the dangers involved in engaging in sexual relationships outside wedlock.
Our major challenge was that we couldn’t afford to get a projector to make a big screen viewing for the student. The principal of the school supported us with his television and video player for the film show which lasted for three days, 23rd to 25th June, 2008.
We recommend the movie "YELLOW CARD" to fellow PET members as it will aid their training positively.

ART EDUCATION @ PLAYFAIR MEMORIAL COLLEGE,ORO-AGO,IFELODUN L.G.A,KWARA STATE

ART EDUCATION @ PLAYFAIR MEMORIAL COLLEGE, ORO-AGO, IFELODUN L.G.A, KWARA

It makes kids feel great when they construct something they can look at and admire. A frown changes to a smile in kids when they paint, draw or engaged in coloring. Shortage of Art teachers in our schools today make it impossible for many kids to tap into their talents and potentials.
It is a great privilege for the student of PLAYFAIR MEMORIAL COLLEGE, ORO-AGO, IFELODUN L.G.A, KWARA STATE to have a trained and experienced artist posted to the school. Corper Adeniyi, the new Art teacher is a graduate of Fine and Applied Arts Dept., University of Benin. He has been able to successfully win the heart of the student within a short space of time into the practice of Art. They are ready to work when it comes to Art period and so eager to submit their home works.
Art stimulates creativity and promotes critical thinking skills. It should also be note that Art Education helps prepare students to communicate and express their understanding in a myriad of ways: kinesthetic, visual, auditory, verbal and written modes.
Art enables them to learn specific knowledge and skills associated with an art form. The complexity of such engagement develops other sets of skills, and abilities such as commitment to hard work, disciplined attention to detail, being able to imagine solutions and recognizing ways to turn failure into success.
Unlike in many other schools, students of PLAYFAIR MEMORIAL COLLEGE, ORO-AGO, has been exposed to practical aspect of Art Education, such like the art of TIE & DYE. This are believe to build in them some technical skills, and learn to be creative problem solvers.
